To improve safety in all residential properties, the Governments’ legislation introduced on 1st June 2020, requires Landlords in the Private Rented Sector in England to have electrical safety checks carried out as follows:
From 1st July 2020 all new specified tenancies will require an electrical safety check to be in place.
From 1st April 2021 all existing specified tenancies will require an electrical safety check to be in place.
Inspections and testing of the electrical installation must be carried out by a qualified and competent person at least every 5 years. Landlord have to provide a copy of the electrical safety certificate to their tenants; local authorities can also request a copy of this important safety certificate.
